If you have a slow drain or a dripping faucet, then a call to the plumber is in order -- but you can certainly wait until their general working hours to make the call. There are, however, other plumbing problems that are really considered emergencies. If any of these three scenarios happen to you, don't wait until Monday. Get in touch with a 24 hour emergency plumber ASAP.

Sewage is backing up into all of your drains.

If sewage starts backing up into all of your drains, call the emergency plumber immediately. Raw sewage is very dangerous, as it contains harmful bacteria that could lead to illness or an infection. You really don't want to expose yourself or your family members to these hazards for any longer than necessary. And if you leave the sewage overflow to keep occurring, the sewage may end up contaminating the floor, your sinks, and other items. Usually, a sewage backup of this nature is caused by a blockage in the main sewer line, which will have to be removed by a professional -- but by your plunger or a gallon or drain cleaner.

There's water leaking from a pipe into your basement.

When one of the major pipes in your basement begins leaking, whether it's a slow leak or a gushing one, you should turn your water main off immediately to prevent any more water damage than your home has already suffered. Even a small leak is a concern as it could quickly develop into a bigger leak if you allow water to keep flowing through the pipes. Call your plumber as soon as you have the water main turned off. You won't have any running water until they fix the problem.

The toilet won't flush.

If you try plunging a clogged toilet and it does not work, then you need to call a plumber to come clear the clog. Clogged toilets that are left to linger can present a health hazard as the waste sits there, unflushed. There's also a chance of the toilet actually backing up and causing sewage to spill out over the floor. Your plumber will probably have to snake the drain to remove whatever is clogging the toilet.

It's always good to have the number of a good emergency plumber on hand so that if you run into any of these three issues, you know who to call on a Saturday or Sunday.
